Why you and I are so addicted to permission

Why do you and I always seek permission when it comes to our leadership?

Well...

It's safe.

It creates an equal playing field for blame.

It keeps you and I from failing in front of anyone.

It allows you and I to shield our identity.

It keeps us from setting an expectation we have to live up to.

It makes us feel good when someone validates our idea.

It's what the organization asks for.

It allows us to define who's really in charge of what.

Permission is alluring because of the safety it provides.  Permission can look like a thumbs up. Permission can look like a smile.  Permission can look like written agreement.  Permission can look like enough investors.  Permission can look like a majority vote.

First plant your fields;
    then build your barn.

-Proverbs 24:27 (The Message)

Permission is like building the barn first.  By the time you get approval the season has already changed on the work that really needed to be done.
