What every team needs

I've bombed at leading teams.  Have you? Teams are difficult to lead because they are made of robots...people.  And people have feelings and thoughts and relationships.  All of these move people in their daily life and some times they push people away from what your team is trying to accomplish.  How can you keep a team of people headed in the same direction?

If you can keep three things in front of a team that meets regularly you will have more success:

1.  Why the team is needed

2.  What are the must do daily things as a team member

3.  What goal must they reach in the next two to three months

My biggest mistake was casting a big vision with never thinking about the small term goals required to reach the vision and communicating these small term goals well.  Clarity is everything with team progress.  Have you been clear on these three things or are you assuming everyone knows?
