The dream in your head can intimidate you. I'm learning taking the dream out of your head and putting on the internet is also intimidating. But today is the day. A dream that's been hiding out in my head is being shipped today.
Welcome to the new bradvoigt.com, home of The Factory Media Network, lovingly known in my brain for over two years as, "The Factory." Life can pull you in many directions and the longer you do one profession there can be a dream below the surface that never comes to fruition. Another way to say it is you never produce on a dream because life is busy. The end goal of The Factory is to help you produce your dream, which you love to think about but but you have a hard time finding the space to create.
More than likely your idea is a good one. Good ideas need to have a platform online, a place where they can be found by a tribe. People who believe in the same idea need a place to connect to one another. This place to gather like minded people could be a blog, it could be a podcast, it could be a book, or it could be a product. But how can any of these be made in your free time or who could help you create this kind of online platform.
Little dreams are not welcome here. If you don't want to reach down deep for your very best creative gifts, don't call me. If you're scared of what everyone is going to think than you're probably safe keeping your dream in your head. If you want to take the idea out for a walk once a month and then put it back inside so nothing dangerous happens than you simply don't need to call on The Factory.
The Factory is about your dream.
So what's different now?
- New look - I wanted a newer, cleaner, less distracting, and incredibly mobile friendly place for bradvoigt.com. After a few months of research in different themes and platforms, I made the switch to Squarespace. This felt like a smart business move to understand more than the Wordpress platform being able to offer clients Squarespace, which provides both hosting and a free single domain (URL) through one company. However, we didn't ditch the traditional means of self hosting using Wordpress. My other site, and a Factory family member, www.manmeetsfood, as well as several clients are strong Wordpress sites I will continue to build upon and learn from.
- A vision - I started writing bradvoigt.com in 2012 and right away felt energized by the opportunity to serve people in this way. Shortly after I started dreaming about The Factory, a group of creative using their gifts to empower even more people to produce their dreams. To help define it I tell people to think of a virtual administrator, except The Factory is your virtual partner. We don't have to sit in the same room to help you get moving on your dream.
- Put the Factory to work page - You can now see the type of services The Factory can provide you by going here. We build sites and give presentations for flat fees, for all other services we offer hourly packages. You can buy an hour or you can buy hours in bulk to save some money.
- Two URL's, one site - My last name can be tricky to spell and we want you to be able to recommend us! But let's be honest, Voigt will forever sound like it should be spelled Voight. My childhood can testify to all the ways my name has been misspelled or mispronounced. So for the first time, you can also get to this site by using the URL www.factorymedianetwork.com, and if you are recommending us to a strong speller you would say, "Check them out at Factory Media Network dot com." See how much easier that is than trying to explain how to properly spell Voigt with no "H."
This is far from perfect. I'm still trying to figure out how to import my former categories like the crowd pleasing, "Things BIG men don't understand." These posts are on the site, I just don't have them in their own space yet. I also know the podcasts are not playable yet in this new site although they can still be found on iTunes! But hey, if I was trying to be perfect before launching than none of it would ever happen!
Let's end on this, thanks for supporting my dream. I long to work with a team of creatives who want to help other people produce their dreams. The team is shaping up and this sounds like fun. Thanks for being along on the ride!
