Are you hyped? When you think about you career moving forward do you get pumped up?
If you don't that's a bummer. I want different for you, I want you to be excited about what's ahead of you and what you are capable of. And if you aren't excited and you don't know where your career is going this is the post for you. There is hope for you and what you do full time.
Hope is like a muscle and the more you use it the stronger it gets. For me, I have a "Gym of Hope" in regards to my dream. And weekly, I spend time there so it gets stronger. My "Gym of Hope" helps me have bigger ideas, clearer thoughts, and it motivates me to activate on what I haven't before.
Today I want to introduce you to my Gym of Hope!
The Squat Rack - It's hard to walk very far with weak legs and this is true in your career as well. Hope will have an early expiration date if you don't help it go the distance. For me, the distance is found in Dan Miller's 48 Days to the Job You Love Podcast! Most of my entrepreneurial spirit is held up by Dan's advice and encouragement. If you have lost hope in your career future, I highly recommend you start here. I recently have become a member to the 48days.net community and have found even more encouragement by others activating on their dreams and sharing in community together on 48days.net. I listen weekly to the 48 Days to the Job You Love Podcast while cleaning the kitchen or mowing the lawn, which yesterday I couldn't hear Dan through my wimpy headphones while mowing so I broke out my podcasting headphones! Get at me and my mega headphones! Dan keeps me dreaming and moving forward so it's worth looking a little silly to the neighbors.
The Ab-Roller - I bet your face is priceless right now. Yeah, I said Ab-Roller. But you always hear how the core is central to strength. A big part of my dream is the potential for online revenue. Which means, my blog game has to be strong, it's the core of my future dream. If you've thought about having an online home it's time for Blog School: You want to subscribe to Amy Lynn Andrews' blog and Kat Lee's podcast How They Blog. Going back to my imagery, Amy will help you build the core and Kat will make it stronger. You can find me listening to Kat's podcast, which she interviews successful online entrepreneurs, as I drive to something over 20 minutes away. (Don't forget, if you want an online home and would like someone to build it for you, we got you! Click here for the details.)
The Stairmaster - It's not about climbing the ladder (see what I did there?), it's about setting goals for the next step and the next step. And for each new step, I feel like I have to be a better leader of myself and others. I have to be a visionary, a dreamer, and a realist. My version of the Stairmaster is Dave Ramsey's EntreLeader Podcast and Seth Godin's blog. These two things add strength and longevity to my dream and I bet they will for your dream too. Simply put, this is where I learn to do business better instead of getting lost in trying to build a bigger business.
The Bench Press - The reality of having a dream that includes an online presence consists of lifting a lot of content. On a weekly basis it's not uncommon for me to write content for two if not three sites. I also have set a goal to expand my guest posting on other sites...that's a lot of content. Simply put, I want to be a better writer and practice helps but it's also good to have a coach. For writing tips I listen to Jeff Goins' podcast. Jeff's site goinswriter.com is about his journey on becoming a full-time writer and what he has learned.
A significant part of having an online business involves transparency. On Thursday, I will show you who I look to for coaching on online transparency, or I like to think of them as the posters of encouragement on the wall at the gym!
Don't go without hope. If you feel stuck in your career I know you will be encouraged if you give these folks a weekly voice in your life! There's something inside you, it's a calling and a purpose, don't let hope sit idle as you show up everyday for work!
